Dongducheon Bars
Camp Casey, Mobile, Castle, Nimble, and Area I
Bars are rated according to various criteria. Mostly, it is general overall impression. As with all things, your mileage may vary and opinions are like assholes...
Some of these are out of business but they will remain here and fondly in our memories - Phrawgh
AMERICA - Mostly hard rock. Occasionally has live bands. Nightly "shows". Stick with the luke warm beer or a soju kettle.
BMW - Not bad. Rock music, newly remodeled.
CHEERS - Kinda run down but not a "bad" place. Not much attention paid to music played or atmosphere and yet they always seem to have customers. Very close to the gate. A little pushy in the "buy me drinky" department.
DAYTONA - Big club (formerly the AAA Club). Never know what kind of music will be playing. Two pool tables. drinky Bar.
DOUBLE DEUCE aka 69 - Pretty raunchy, mostly R&B music. Whiskey tastes funny. Mix of a few GI's, Muslims, and former Russian republic type folks. Stays open late. Has potential to get a little rough.
FERRARI - The Yugo of drinky bars.
GALAXY - Formerly the New Korea. State of the art sound system, newly remodeled. Operated by folks without a clue. Maybe R&B, maybe disco, maybe filipina tunes. Trying to be all things to all people, ends up being nothing. Drinky factory.
HARLEY CLUB - Don't let the name fool you, the only thing the Harley Club has in common with a biker bar is that they serve beer. A little pushy in the "Buy me drinky" area. Usually plays rock, but it can go from ACDC to "Eye of the tiger" to R&B during the course on one drink.
HEAD - Loud rock. Whiskey usually tastes good. GI friendly. Younger, rowdier crowd.
LAS VEGAS - Country music club. Large dance floor and pool tables.
LIMBO - Hard Rock, Russian drinky girls, nasty whiskey.
MOSCOW - Da! "Buy me drinky, Komrade!"
NEW YORK - Why bother? drinky factory. Not worth the walk.
PAN KOREA - Latino Bar. Whiskey tastes really bad.
PEACE CLUB - This club has been around for years. A staple of the TDC diet. Usually an older crowd, lots of regulars and a laid back enviorment. Plays mostly classic rock. Owned and operated by Mrs. Lee, one of the best looking 50+ year old ladies around. Two dart boards but they are not maintained or properly illuminated. Acceptable for dates and mixed sex unit thunder runs. Very GI friendly.
PHRAWGH'S TAVERN - The sign is bigger than the bar. Mostly classic rock, a little country, punk, and other eclectic fare - often depending on the hour. Nice change of pace, friendly atmosphere. Darts. The whiskey is good and the beer is cold. website
PLAYERS - Formerly the Black Rose Club. Was R&B, seems to be converting to latino.
RED - Warm beer, pushy mamasan, whiskey mixed with soju, terrible music, dark and dank, lots of filipinas. Perfect example of a drinky mill.
RENDEVOUS - By the grace of Allah! All that is right in the world shall be, if Allah wishes! We love the Rendevous! We cannot drink or look at women in our own countries (and who would want to look at our women, there is a reason for the burkha, bless Allah), so we come here. Allah Akbar! That said, largest selection of real liquor and imported beers in town. Excellent drinks. Open all night. Plays loud Korean dance music and frequented by sundry nationalities. Usually crowded. It can get very rough. If you must go, Americans should take friends, and maintain situational awarness at all times.
ROCK AND ROLL TOGETHER - Another old club. A must visit (at least once). If you want to see the Dongducheon of the early 80's, this is it (X-Mas lights on the ceiling). They still play videos off VCR tapes, on an old projection TV. Shoddy sound system. Very loud, very crowded, very dark and the whiskey tastes funny.
SEXY - Off limits to U.S. military personnel. You're not missing anything by skipping this piss hole.
SILVER STAR - Country music bar. Large dance floor and two pool tables. Home of the Silver Star Outlaws social club. Nice change of pace, friendly atmosphere. The whiskey is good
SUN - Rock music. Very nice and newly remodeled. One of the few clubs in town with windows. Owner is nice Korean gentleman. Very GI friendly. Whiskey tastes good, but the beer is usually on the warm side.
TIME - Formerly the Dragon club. Huge waste of space.
UP - Usually rock music. For the most part a drinky factory.
USA - Yeah right. Various music. Buy drinkys have a good time.
VIP - R&B music. Large club and dance floor. Somewhat GI friendly. Sometimes a little rowdy. Pool tables. Whiskey tastes odd.
WORLD CUP - Small cafe type place catering mostly to Russians. Passable Russian food.
Tokeri Bars
Camp Hovey
Be advised! If you are accompanied by a female in Tokeri, she must possess a US military or dependent ID card or she will not be allowed in the clubs.
BLACK JACK - Mostly rock. Not too bad if you live on Camp Hovey and don't want to go all the way to TDC. Friendly owner. Whiskey is usually good.
BLUES BROTHERS aka B&B - Nice new club, but a drinky mill. Should be called GNDN (goes nowhere does nothing)
BOUNCE - Not open yet.
OLYMPUS - The gold medal winner of crappy drinky bars.
PLATINUM - Not open yet.
OTHER CLUBS - Every bar in town is a drinky factory. A few have whiskey that tastes passable.
Songtan Bars
Osan Air Base
VOODOO - Excellent club. Plays Rock. Large solection of liqour and beer. Foosball, 'nuff said.
XANADU - Great club. Plays loud rock. Occasionally has live band. Friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Good liqour and beer selection.
